Mississippi is in the Southern region of the United States and is named for the Mississippi River that flows along its boundary to the west. Master of Education in Special Education: Mild/Moderate Disabilities (K-12)
The Mild/Moderate Disabilities emphasis in the Master of Education in Special Education program requires 30-33 hours of online coursework and internship in a special education setting. Grades K-12 individuals with mild to moderate disabilities (learning, behavior, high-functioning autism, ADHD) are served through this preparation program in an inclusive setting.
Core competencies included in the series include: Psychology of learning for special needs children, educational research methods, inclusive setting foundations of special education, assessment and intervention techniques, education methods for preschool, elementary and secondary exceptional learning needs.

The emphasis in Mild/Moderate Disabilities of the Master of Science in Special Education degree addresses the needs of emotional/behavioral disabilities and mild/moderate disabilities. Students must complete a minimum of 36 hours of online and campus-based courses including: Special Education organization procedures, characteristics of emotional disabilities, behavior management, evaluation and individual measurement methods, remedial reading, psychology of learning disabled children and inclusion techniques for a general education setting.
Graduates are eligible for licensure application and recommendation for special education endorsement.
