The Department of Professional Studies at the University of Wyoming offers programs in educational administration for adults, post-secondary schools and K1-2 schools, in addition to programs in counseling, special education and instructional technology. These programs are designed to prepare students to make a difference on a societal and global level. The faculty in the school are committed to mentoring graduate students and developing meaningful relationships with students and faculty members, creating a truly welcoming and positive program. In the special education department, there is a Master’s Degree in Education with a teaching endorsement in K-12 Special Education and a Special Education Director’s Endorsement. There is also an online outreach program for those that would like to pursue a master’s degree in special education in an online setting.
Master’s Degree in Education with a teaching endorsement in K-12 Special Education
This program is designed to prepare teachers for careers in special education. Applicants to the program must have a valid teaching license and an undergraduate degree in the field of education. The program can be completed in either 34 or 41 credit hours, using a variety of delivery methodologies, such as online coursework, intensive weekend courses, video-conferencing or a combination program.
Master’s Degree in Education with a Special Education Director Endorsement
Applicants must currently hold a BA or a BS and a valid teaching license prior to being admitted to the program. Students must complete all of the courses in the special education master’s degree program, in addition to the courses in the Educational Leadership Certification program.
Accreditations
The University of Wyoming is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. In addition, the special education program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The university also holds a membership in the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, the American Council on Education and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
